Driving without seatbelts – Introduction to Eskisehir

Our ride has begun! As our first task, we went to the city center of Eskisehir and spoke to the local people about the Terracotta Symposium. We interviewed several people but most of them had never heard of the Terracotta Symposium. We later realized this was because the Turkish, and more familiar name of the event is Pişmiş Toprak Symposium!

Interviewing the local people

Eskisehir is safe, beautiful and friendly to foreigners. We were very much welcomed! We were shown how to make a true Turkish kebab and we even received dancing, singing and skating lessons for free!

Now it is time for the event to actually start, so to everyone involved - Break a leg!

But maybe not literally like one of our volunteers!
Although, no worries, tea is always there - even in hospitals,
which are very good, by the way!

Volunteers of the 6th Pişmiş Toprak Symposium.

United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, Hungaria, Romania, Austria, Italy - There are ten of us. The EVS (European voluntary Service),  DeM organisation, and the Eskisehir Tepabasi Municipality have enabled us to be here in Eskisehir and to gain new experiences, to do something meaningful and have fun at the same time.
In this blog, we would like to show you not only how we perceive the art of the Pismis Toprak Symposium but also the beauty of Eskisehir itself.  We all come from different places and have different opinions yet we are already really enthusiastic about the Turkish Symposium and spending one month in this beautiful city.
